Now these may seem a little arbitrary and useless, but they are actually awesome. I keep all of my toiletries in the same bag, and of course I throw in my toothbrush as well. The brush is usually a little damp when I throw it in, as I’m always in a rush, and thie is rather unhygienic. Now, I am not a hygiene (anti-germ) freak, but I do like to do the best I can.
With this little cover, you can just protect your bristles from touching anything other than toothpaste and your own teeth.
So cheap at £3.99, but well worth it.

Most people think that only the hard-core campers need a multi tool. This is complete rubbish. Yes, I agree most times you wont need everything on the tool, but they are quite inexpensive, and very now and again they will help you out of a jam or just make your life a little easier.
For example, once we had landed at an airport once, I had to get some documents out of my bag. Unfortunately I had used some plastic ties to secure my zips and I had no knife….or did I? Bring on the multi-tool.
Another time I just wanted to unscrew the container that held the gas at one of those public BBQ areas they have in Australia (to see if it was empty), and ….call on the multi-tool.
To be completely honest I have only used my tool a handful of times while travelling, but they are an inexpensive ’luxury’ I am happy to carry with me.
You can get them from a range of retailers, such as HERE

This is Trunki. The childrens travel bag that has been taking the UK by storm. This really is quite cool. Your kids get to sit on their animal inspired bag (on a comfy cushion mind you), and you can pull them along using the attached cord. Thus keeping the little brats ones entertained and busy to prevent tantrums.
They may look a little basic, but they are actually quite advanced with build in stabalisers to prevent children from topping them over.
Now we just have to wonder when they are going to come out with adult ones
Yes, please! This was my main requirement before we left for our trip, although strictly not a travel gadget I understand. These are basically the most comfortable beach sandal you can buy, with the added bonus of a bottle opener in the base. Now initially quite a few poeple said to me that this is not gonig to be used at all (there was general mocking and taunting), but on the trip I can assure you this was used many a time.
It is surprising how often you find yourself, or a friend, in need of a bottle opener and not having one. No longer though.

]]>While organising things for the Thailand trip, we decided that it would be a great idea to get a waterproof bag. As there was only the two of us travelling (and we like to swim together) we wouldnt want to leave things on the beach. So, this way we could carry our items with us in the ocean.
We wanted to be able to carry things like our cellphones, money, and ipods. After searching for ages we eventually stumbled upon a make called aquapac. These are absolutely brilliant.
We actually ended up getting 2. We got a large one and a smaller, more durable one. The great thing about these bags is that apart from being 100% waterproof, they also float, so if they come off your waste, then there are no issues. I can’t quite remember where we bought ours from, but I do see that Cotswold are currently selling them.
We are busy preparing for our next trip at the moment. Just a brief stint through Thailand and Australia for a few weeks.
Of course one of the main considerations where backpacking is “how to carry your cash”. We always opt for a mixture of credit card, debit card, travellers cheques (just in case) and cash (not all, but enough to always get us out of a squeeze. When working out how we would be carrying our Thai Baht around with us (with an exchange rate of £1 = 58B the pack of notes is quite thick), we were considering leaving some of it in our “hotel” room using a portable safe.
Now, I have never used one of these before, but they do look quite cool. The best make I could find was by PacSafe, and is called the “PacSafe TravelSafe 100”.
Basically, it is like a security bag, with steel mesh in the lining and a steel cord. You place your items (passport, cash etc.) into the bag, close it and secure it to an immovable object – like your bedpost.
From the outset, it does look quite cool and useful. However we got to thinking and I just can not see myself leaving my valuables in a little bag, out in the open (as I cant hide it if it needs to be secured to the bed) to tempt would be thieves.
Sure, they may have a hard time getting it open, but where there is a will, there is a way, and I would rather not place the bait.
For now, I think we will just be using our trusty old travel wallet.
Oh Yes! You heard that right. This is a sleeping bag you wear. How feakin’ cool is that. This must be the most comfortable thing to wear in winter, whether on vacation, or just watching TV
